"The computer lab really helped me develop a natural French accent.  The interactive learning sessions were the best."

Technology

At Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, we integrate technical skill building into the various classes of the curriculum. We have laptop carts (portable classrooms) equipped with wireless networked laptops and a printer for use in classrooms, and a computer lab with 20 computers running Windows XP and Office 2003 Premium. The lab computers also have Davka Writer, a Hebrew word processor, the Hebrew characters on the keyboards, and several world language programs. Students have access to worldwide resources over the Internet from the library, in their classrooms from the laptops, or from the computer lab.

The lab also has curriculum specific applications for the world language programs to develop the student's "ear" and enthusiasm for French, Spanish and Hebrew. The Internet is used during the language lab time to enrich the classes with material and information from these cultures.

Portable Smart Boards and TabletPCs are used with a projector in the classrooms. They allow the teacher's notes to be saved, automatically change handwritten text to type fonts, and allows words to be dragged about the screen with the touch of a finger or organizing information. The Smart Board screen can be touch activated for controlling the computer desktop and bringing up documents or the internet on the screen in front of the classroom.
